Spotting Goodness

When I become critical towards others, it means I am going in the wrong direction. We are usually very good at spotting mistakes, but we should develop the quality of also spotting goodness. If I can see what is good in others or in situations and go beyond the curtain of negativity, I feel good about myself. If I constantly think "he is wrong", I instead create a barrier which blocks me from reaching my own goodness.

Inspired out of a rut . . .

Often people attempt to live their lives backwards; they try to have more things, or more money, in order to do more of what they want, so they will be happier.  The way it actually works is the reverse.  You must first be who you really are, then do what you need to do, in order to have what you want.  ~Margaret Young

Sometimes when I find myself thinking about life in general I wonder just what it is that we are trying to do in life.  We seem so stuck in a rut — the same things over and over — and life never changes!!  Not counting the chaos that hits when family decides to go haywire — I'm talking about the day-to-day, week-to-week *stuff*.

I can tell myself a few hundred times that all I need to do is make a few changes and things will be totally different.  I make plans, set out some goals — yet, I never seem to move forward with anything.  I just stay stuck — right where I am.

But, after thinking about this for quite some time — and realizing that I must make a change — for myself, for my relationship, for how I interact with those around me!  And the change can only come from within myself — because I truly need to be different — I need to feel happy; be able to express those emotions that I have - good and bad - in a way that allows me to grow; and I need to be able to show myself that I can step outside of the rut I have allowed myself to fall into!!

Being happy doesn't mean every thing's perfect; it just means you've decided to see beyond the imperfections.  I'm anything but perfect!  But it is time to see beyond the imprefections that are immediate in life — and look for what it is that I truly want — grasp it and enjoy!!!!

Shifting the Sun - Happy Father’s Day

Shifting the Sun

When your father dies, say the Irish,
you lose your umbrella against bad weather.
May his sun be your light, say the Armenians.

When your father dies, say the Welsh,
you sink a foot deeper into the earth.
May you inherit his light, say the Armenians.

When your father dies, say the Canadians,
you run out of excuses.
May you inherit his sun, say the Armenians.

When your father dies, say the French,
you become your own father.
May you stand up in his light, say the Armenians.

When you father dies, say the Indians,
he comes back as the thunder.
May you inherit his light, say the Armenians.

When your father dies, say the Russians,
he takes your childhood with him.
May you inherit his light, say the Armenians.

When your father dies, say the English,
you join his club you vowed you wouldn't.
May you inherit his sun, say the Armenians.

When your father dies, say the Armenians,
your sun shifts forever.
And you walk in his light.

Today’s Card . . .

 Page of Cups

In this card we see the young man in a rather defensive stance, gazing heavily into the cup which he clenches in his hand. Behind him the sky is gray and the waters, which represent emotion, are choppy and a bit foreboding. He has made a conscious decision to turn away from the pull of that storm, so that he can focus on his cup, finding a source of inner strength and guidance. Coming from the cup is a fish which represents sustenance and spiritual abundance.

This page is so close to connecting with this source of wisdom.

Sometimes when we are able to turn away from the pull of emotions/fears as this young man has, out of the blue our answers appear and we can recognize that all we need is provided to us, even when it comes in unexpected or unconventional ways.

Today, take care to avoid getting entangled in emotions. Look for the answers within yourself. We can't control outer circumstances any more than the Page in the card can control his environment, however we do have the ability to choose the way(s) in which we react to our circumstances. This card is a reminder to honor the gifts of free will and choice.

Just a thought . . .

When you follow what you love in life, challenges
Can be tough because the stakes are high.  You set
Your whole heart on reaching your goal and you
Want, so badly, to succeed!

It's not always easy.  But, doing what you love
Means that, each morning, you awaken with
Passion and excitement at your core.

It means you're finding hidden strengths you didn't
Know you possessed. And, you're equipped to get
Over obstacles and disappointments with grace.

Most of all, it means no regrets.  No matter what,
You're living an exciting life, doing what you were
Born to do.
